Class Opening and Review

GREETING

Greet the students with phrases they know. Make sure you ask the students about the day of the week in the greeting. For example:

T: Good morning, class. How are you today? S: Fine, thanks.

T: Whay day is it? S: It’s ________.

T: What are you wearing today? S: I’m wearing __________.

DRILL

Quickly review names and concepts for clothing the students have learned, especially the key words: skirt, blouse, pants, shirt, sweater, hat, shoes and socks; new and old; too big and too small. Point to clothes your students are wearing. Use phrases such as:

Point to a coat.

Is this/Are these ______ or ______?

Is this/Are these too big/ too small/ just right?

What’s this? What are these?

Is this/Are these new or old?

New Concepts

DEMONSTRATE

T: (The teacher shows a picture of coat/hat/shirt…)

What’s this? S: It’s a _________.

(Then the teacher shows a picture of pants)

T: What are these? S: Pants.

T: We can say “a pair of pants”. (重读a pair of)

(板书:a pair of pants)

T: Do you know what’s the meaning of “a pair of”?

S: 一条,一副,一双。(若学生回答不出,教师直接给出解释。)

T: “A pair” means shuang or tiao in Chinese. It refers to two (重读)matching objects. Pants and shorts are “pairs” because they have two legs.

Say “a pair of” with the class a few times.

The teacher shows the picture of pants, socks, shorts, gloves, boots, shoes, slippers…. The class say “a pair of _____” together.

Play the audiotape as the students follow in their books.

FASHION SHOW

(老师拿出课前准备好的一些服装)

T: Now here are many beautiful clothes. Let’s have a “Fashion Show”. OK? S: OK.

T: What’s this? S: It’s a ______/a pair of______.

T: Who wants to wear this _______? S: (略)

(老师把服装分发给学生,然后让学生进行时装表演。每个学生边表演边唱22课歌曲 “He’s wearing red pants, on a Sunday morning.”只是把歌词换成自己穿的衣服:I’m wearing ___________, on a Sunday morning.)

2. Put on your clothes.

DEMONSTRATE

T:(老师边穿衣服边说)I put on my coat.(重读put on)

Do you know what’s the meaning of “put on”?

S: 穿上,戴上。(板书:put on _________)

T: Read it, “put on”. S: Put on.

(老师与学生边做动作边说)Put on my coat/gloves/shoes/hat/scarf…

Note for the students the difference between “wear” (chuan zhe) and “put on” (chuan shang). Stress that, unlike Chinese (which simply says chuan shang xie zi, xi lian, xi shou), English usually adds a modifier before the nouns to indicate possession. You have to say put on my/his/her/your/our/their shoes, for example.

DRILL

Ask the students to stand and do actions that follow the directions.

For example:

T: Put on your coat/shoes…

S: (穿上大衣、鞋子……)

Play the audiotape, first time the students just listen. Then the teacher asks one question.

T: Do you know what’s the meaning of “wake up”?

S: 醒来,起床。

Second time, ask the students read No.2 follow the audiotape.

3. Story: “A New Coat for Li Ming”

PREPARE TO READ

The teacher asks some students this questions.

T: My favourite colour is blue. What’s your favourite colour?

S: My favourite colour is ___________.

T: What happens when you outgrow your old coat? How do you get a coat that fits?(必要时可用汉语解释一下。)

S: (学生自由发言。)

T: (出示李明图像)Who’s this?

S: It’s Li Ming.

T: Today we’ll learn a story about Li Ming.(板书:A New Coat for Li Ming)What do you think happens?

S: (鼓励学生多用英语回答。)

READ THE STORY

T: Before the story, I have some questions for you. Look! (课件打出如下问题)

What is Li Ming wearing?

What’s wrong with his old coat?

Does Li Ming like shopping for a new coat?

What colour is the new coat?

Does Li Ming like his new coat?

Play the story.(播放故事,可参考教参配套光盘)

Let the students answer the questions. And then play the story again. Third time, the students read the story line by line follow the teacher.

The teacher can assign the activity book exercise for homework if you run out of time during the lesson.

MAKE UP A STORY

Tell the students to make a story of their own called “A New ______ for _______(student’s name)”. They can choose any item of clothing they know in English. Tell them to draw pictures and write words in English to help others understand their story.
