1、 A MOUNTAIN was in labour, and the people of seven cities had

assembled to watch its movements and hear its groans. While they

waited in breathless expectancy out came a Mouse.

"Oh, what a baby!" they cried in derision.

"I may be a baby," said the Mouse, gravely, as he passed outward

through the forest of shins, "but I know tolerably well how to

diagnose a volcano."

2、A LION came across a Hare, who was fast asleep. He was just in

the act of seizing her, when a fine young Hart trotted by, and he

left the Hare to follow him. The Hare, scared by the noise,

awoke and scudded away. The Lion was unable after a long chase

to catch the Hart, and returned to feed upon the Hare. On

finding that the Hare also had run off, he said, "I am rightly

served, for having let go of the food that I had in my hand for

the chance of obtaining more."

3、called out to a passing traveler for help, but instead of holding

out a helping hand, the man stood by unconcernedly, and scolded

the boy for his imprudence. "Oh, sir!" cried the youth, "pray

help me now and scold me afterwards."

Counsel without help is useless.
