摘要 中国加入wto和经济全球化的大趋势必然导致中外经济、文化的大融汇、大交流。应运而生的新课标、新教材,必然要求中小学的英语教学具有培养学生全新的国际视野和较强的语言交际能力。这必然导致中小学英语教学的功能变革。变革的层面主要涉及现行的教学理念、教学手段、教学方法和教学内容。认识新课标形势下的英语教学责任重大,奋起迎接时代的挑战是我们中小学英语教学面向国际的历史性要求。

abstract: with china stalking into wto and the acceleration of the economic globalization, there undertakes a great blending of world economies and cultures, which in return sets very high demands for english teaching in china’s schools so that the international-level students are supposed to learn english with a stress on their proficiency and a brand-new global perspective therein. this has led to some radical changes in english teaching in china’s schools concerning the teaching ideas, methods and contents. so the english teachers in schools must pluck up their courage to face the challenge with a stronger sense of responsibility in the new era.

with china stalking into wto, the economic globalization accelerates more. with china’s opening policy greatly improved, more and more people go abroad for studies as well as for businesses or personal careers. in the recent years, on the one hand, more and more younger and younger school students go to native english countries for their english study because they are not satisfied with the english teaching in schools. on the other hand, more and more foreigners, of different ages and skins, can be seen in chinese cities, big or small. with the great blending of world economics and cultures, we can foresee higher and higher demands for english teaching in schools in china. at the turn of the century the new curriculum came into being and now is being effectively practised in experimental ways in schools all over china. many kinds of new textbook series are accordingly made and published for schools in different places to choose for different purposes. the latest textbook series for schools mostly have the following characteristics:
