Shakespeare is the greatest English writer that ever lived.

Shakespeare is the greatest English writer —will there ever be such another?

Shakespeare advises us not to borrow or lend.

Shakespeare says, “Neither a borrower nor a lender be.”

When Shakespeare says in Sonnet 72, “Unless you would devise some virtuous lie, / To do more for me than mine own desert,” he is using the word desert in the sense of “worthiness.

When Shakespeare uses the expression “mice and rats, and such small deer” for Edgar’s diet in King Lear, probably written in 1605, we are not sure whether deer has the general or the specific sense.

Dickens was a prolific writer.

Shakespeare was an Elizabethan.

Dickens was contemporary with Thackeray.

Dickens was the author of ‘Oliver Twist’.

Shakespeare was not only a writer but also an actor.

Charles Dickens caricatured lawyers (= represented them in a way which made them look ridiculous) in several of his novels.

Shakespeare compared world to a stage.

Dickens wrote “a Tale of Two Cities”.

Troilus and Coriolanus are the greatest political plays that Shakespeare wrote. 《

Shakespeare has accustomed us to a mixture of humor and tragedy in the same play.

Shakespeare has written most of the best plays we know.
