My understanding of this lesson:

This lesson is taken from the New Standard Primary English, the twelfth book, Module 6 Unit 1 I bought a book for you. This lesson includes three parts. Through these three parts, the students will get knowledge about the past tense and the key drills: I bought …for you. My mum gave it to me. According to the students’ English level and the demands of the New Standard English, I made the following teaching aims, key and difficult points.

Teaching aims:

1. Knowledge aims:

(1) To enable the students to read and comprehend the dialogue correctly.

(2) To learn the new words: bought, gave, sent and space.

(3) To enable the students to master the key drills:

I bought a book for you.

Who gave it to you?

And make sure they can use these drills in the real situations.

2. Ability aims:

(1) To ask the students to know about the past tense and use the key drills skillfully.

(2) To develop the students’ English abilities of listening, speaking and reading.

(3) To train the students' abilities of communication and cooperation.

3. Moral aims:

(1) To arouse the students interest in space.

(2) To teach the students to share your things with the others.

Teaching key and difficult points:

1. To read and comprehend the dialogue in Part One. And comprehend the past tense.

2. To master the key drills:

I bought a book for you.

Who gave it to you? Your mum gave it to me.

China sent a man into spaceship.

And pay attention to the new words: bought, gave, sent and space.

And use these drills in the real situations skillfully.

Teaching methods:

In order to achieve the teaching aims and break the teaching key and difficult points, I’ll mainly use task-based teaching method and activity teaching method. In class, I will also use encouraging remarks to help the students build up their self-confidence in learning English and their interest in English. Meanwhile I will also make full use of the modern equipment to make our class more interesting and lively.

Teaching aids:

CAI, Tape- recorder

Teaching process:

Step 1. Warming-up and leading-in

1. Listen to the following chant and try to follow it.

Chant: I’ve got a new pen and a new pencil.

You’ve got a new book and a new desk.

(Purpose: Through this chant, the Ss can review the drills “I’ve got/ You’ve got…” and get ready for the next step.)

2. Free Talk: What have you got on last New Year’s Day.

e.g. I’ve got a new toy.

I’ve got a new book.

(Purpose: Lead into the key drills. You know, New Year’s Day just passed for a few days. I’m sure on New Year’s Day the students have got some presents. The communication is real and connected with their real life.)

3. Do ask and answer:

(1) Who gave it to you?

Lead them to say:

My mum/friend... gave it to me.

(2) What did you buy for your parents or friends?

Lead them to say: I bought a …for my friend.

Step 2. Presentation

(1) Yesterday was Daming’s birthday. He has got a great present. Let’s watch the CD and then answer the following questions.

Q: Who bought a book for Daming?

What’s the book about?

(Purpose: Here I set a background to help the students comprehend today’s dialogue.

CAI and CD can offer the students a good situation to comprehend the dialogue. It can make our class more interesting and lively.)

(2) (Divide the dialogue into two parts.) Learn the dialogue step by step.

Listen to the tape and follow the dialogue.

Pay attention to the key and difficult sentences:

I bought a book for you. It’s all about space travel.

Your mum gave it to me.

Look, there are spaceships from America and Russia.

China sent a man into space, too.

(Purpose: To present the new knowledge one by one is much easier for the students to understand.)

Teach and explain the above sentences. Make sure they can read, speak and comprehend these sentences correctly.

Step 3. Practice

1. Read the dialogue in groups. Try to act it out or read it in role-play.

2. A game: Choose the presents and make a similar dialogue in groups of three students.

(Before this game, I’ll say: Boys and girls, you did a good job in the today's lesson. So I’ll reward you some presents. Point the CAI and show some gift boxes. And ask them to choose and practice like Part 3.)

(Purpose: Working in groups can develop the students abilities of communication and cooperation better. Using the game to practice the knowledge is a good teaching method for the primary school students.)

Step 4. Assessment

Make a survey.

Name bought/ sentgotfrom

Interview your friend what present they bought or got last birthday, Christmas or New Year’s Day.

(Purpose: Through this survey, the students can use today’s drills in real situation. Do meaningful activities and finish the task. And I can check how well they learned about today’s knowledge.)

Step 5. Summary

1. What did you learn in this lesson?

2. Can you make sentences with the words: bought, got or sent.

(Purpose: It’s necessary for the students to summarize today’s knowledge in short time.)

3. Are you interested in space? After class, collect some materials about space. For example, Chinese space travel or spaceship. And get ready for the next unit.

(Purpose: Arouse their interest in space and get ready for the next lesson.)

Homework:

1. Listen and read today’s unit skillfully.

(Purpose: It is necessary and important for the students to listen, read and speak English as much as possible after class.)

2. Collect some materials about Chinese space travel.

(Purpose: Collecting some materials can develop the students’ abilities of collecting.)

( Blackboard design plays an important role in teaching. Look at my blackboard design, such design is clear and simple. It includes today’s key words and sentences. It’s much easier for the students to remember today’s key points quickly. I designed the sentence “I bought a book for you.” as a present. It means when you give some gifts to your friends or parents, you can say “ I bought… for you.” In this case, the students can think of this drill quickly. )

The note of my post-teaching

The teaching activities and steps I designed are clear and easier for the students to finish. Before I designed this lesson, I considered the teaching contents and students’ English level completely. I’m sure with my help the students can master today’s lesson better and I can achieve the teaching aims better.
