Steps:

Pre-task preparation:

1. Ask the students to look at their own hands. Ask which finger is tall/fat/thin/small, etc. Draw a large hand on the board. Label each finger with its size.

2. Practise sentence-building with the word cards: He, She, is and the names of the characters.

3. Introduce: in the rain; babies with blackboard drawings.

4. Demonstrate the action: bow.

5. Play the cassette. Listen to the rhyme.

6. Listen and repeat.

7. Point to the pictures and say the rhyme.

While-task procedure:

1. Say the rhyme aloud.

2. Use the finger actions and say the rhyme together.

3. Students in groups, according to their own size, may act out the rhyme.

Post-task activities:

1. In pairs, make a new rhyme. (e.g. Two small dogs/thin cats/in the rain … )

2. Say and act their own rhyme.

1) Trace and circle the correct words.

2) Individual students may read out the sentences on completion.

Student’s self-assessment:

In groups, refer the students to the self-assessment sheet on page 59 and have them discuss their opinion about each task in this unit and what they think they have learned. Have each student fill in the sheet accordingly with the appropriate amount of support from me, depending on individual students’ ability.
